Card fees are one of the few costs a store owner can actually change. NRS PAY offers two ways to pay for card processing. Here is how each works and how to pick.
Clean Rate: a simple percentage
On the Clean Rate plan you pay 2.49% + 10¢ on each card-present sale (3.49% + 10¢ if a card number is keyed in), plus a $10 monthly account fee.
It is predictable and easy to explain to staff. It suits stores where most customers pay cash anyway, or where card sales are modest.
Cash discount: two prices at the register
With the cash discount program, your NRS POS shows two prices: a card price, and a lower price for customers who pay cash. It is often called dual pricing.
- The program costs $49.95/mo
- That fee is waived if you process over $18,000 a month in card sales
Two rules matter here:
- Your shelf labels must show both prices, matching what the register shows. You can print labels from the My NRS Store app.
- No minimums on debit cards. If you set a minimum for credit cards, it can't be more than $10 and must apply to every card brand.
Which one fits your store?
- Mostly cash, small card volume: Clean Rate keeps things simple.
- Busy store, over $18K a month in cards: the cash discount plan can save the most, and its monthly fee is waived.
- Lots of SNAP: add EBT Unlimited ($49.95/mo, $0 per EBT swipe) to either plan.
Either way, NRS gives you the EMV card reader free with NRS PAY, and your NRS software plan costs less than it would without NRS PAY.

The honest answer depends on your own numbers. Bring a recent processing statement and Dipendra will put your current fees next to both NRS PAY plans, line by line.
Rates are NRS's published rates as of October 2026 and can change. NRS PAY is a service of National Retail Solutions, provided under an NRS agreement.
