If your pumps still take only magnetic-stripe cards, you are carrying a risk that grows every month. Here is what EMV at the pump means for a Texas gas station, and the two ways NRS can help.
What changed
EMV is the chip standard on today's cards. The card networks moved fraud liability to the station when a chip card is used at a pump that can't read chips. If a skimmed or counterfeit card is used at a non-EMV dispenser, the chargeback lands on you.
Magnetic-stripe pumps are also where skimmers do the most damage, and that hurts more than the chargebacks: it costs customer trust.
Option 1: the full NRS Petro platform
NRS Petro connects the Cheetah POS directly to your dispensers, with integrations for Gilbarco, Wayne, Bennett and other leading brands. Fuel and store sales ring up on one screen and close out in one report.
It also brings:
- Fleet card acceptance and dual (cash discount) pricing
- Lottery automation and tobacco scan data buydowns
- Security camera integration, anti-theft alerts and a POS panic button
- DoorDash, Grubhub and loyalty programs for the store side
Option 2: the EMV EZ Pump retrofit
If your pumps work fine and you only need chip and contactless, NRS's EMV EZ Pump retrofit upgrades supported models instead of replacing them. NRS lists support for Gilbarco Advantage, Encore 300, 500, 500s and 700s (5.7" eCIM door) and Wayne Vista and Ovation 1.
For scale, NRS compares full pump replacement at $140,000+ and manufacturer retrofit kits at $60,000+. The EZ Pump retrofit is quoted per site.
Start with the free site survey
Every station is different: dispenser models, the forecourt controller, how your store is set up. NRS offers a free site survey to identify your equipment and recommend the full Petro platform or a retrofit.
Dipendra can arrange the survey and walk you through both options, with financing where available, before you commit to anything.
