How much does an NRS POS system cost in 2026?

NRS's published prices for the Cheetah, Puma and Panther systems, the monthly plans and NRS PAY, plus four questions to ask before you sign.

The NRS POS lineup: Cheetah, Puma and Panther

If you run a convenience store, gas station or grocery in Texas, the first question about a new register is simple: what will it cost? Here are the numbers NRS publishes, what each one covers, and the costs people forget to ask about.

The hardware: a one-time purchase

NRS sells its systems as bundles. Each countertop bundle includes a 15" merchant touchscreen, a customer-facing screen, a barcode/ID scanner, a thermal receipt printer and a steel cash drawer.

Bundle NRS list price Best for
Cheetah POS $1,799 (list $2,799) Busy stores, big pricebooks (up to 15,000 UPCs), scales, gas stations
Puma POS $1,299 (list $1,999) Smaller pricebooks (up to 4,500 UPCs)
Panther Workstation $1,199 Tablet-based counter
Panther Tablet bundle $499 Small counters, salons, cafes
Panther on your own tablet $0 hardware Stores with an Android tablet already

The Cheetah and Panther require NRS PAY card processing; the Puma works with or without it. The EMV card reader is free when you sign up for NRS PAY.

The monthly plan

Every NRS system has a software service and support plan. It covers the software, the one-year warranty and 7-day phone and chat support.

  • Basic: $19.95/mo with NRS PAY ($29.95 without)
  • Pro: $34.95/mo ($54.95 without)
  • Advanced: $49.95/mo ($74.95 without), which adds ecommerce, loyalty, license ID scanning and theft alerts
  • Elite: $79.95/mo ($109.95 without)

Each extra register is $19.95/mo with NRS PAY. Paying yearly gets you one month free.

Card processing

NRS PAY's Clean Rate is 2.49% + 10¢ per card-present sale, plus a $10/mo account fee. If you process over $18,000 a month in cards, the cash discount plan has no monthly fee. If you take a lot of SNAP, EBT Unlimited is a flat $49.95/mo with nothing per swipe.

What to ask before you sign

  1. Which bundle do I actually need? A small smoke shop rarely needs a Cheetah.
  2. Which plan? If you want loyalty or ID scanning, compare Advanced against paying for add-ons separately.
  3. What happens to the equipment if I leave? NRS charges $350 per device that isn't returned in working condition.
  4. Is there a trade-in? NRS runs a POS trade-in program for stores switching from another system.
